The past stories that we at Pluggas have been working on have been amazing. We’re creating better quality films, building better partnerships with businesses and creatives and leaving a str`onger legacy. We’ve made several adjustments along the way to get to this point. But one of the turning points really for us is when we determined our values and used them as a turnstile for people we would work with.
Values are basically the beliefs that drive you or your organization. They’re the things that you prioritise and give the most time, effort and resources. For us our values are clear. We love telling stories, and the primary way we do that is through film. It’s not in us to just work with anyone who needs a video. We work with people with a compelling mission who need people like us to make that mission clear.
Ever since we decided to up the filter to our client funnel, we got less done. But we’re making more money and more impact. All that because we decided to clear up our values and work based on those.
Shared Passion, One Destination
Why is working with others with your values so important? Imagine you have one car and you’re with a friend. Your friend wants to go to the grocery store but you intend to hit the beach. Unless there’s a grocery store on the beach, making both people happy will be a challenge.
Why? Because your goals are extremely tied up with your priorities. In Pluggas, for example, we’re all about stories. Many people approach us with the intent to make a video even if there’s no storyline or pre-production. While the world does have a place for content like that, that’s not what we feel we’re called to do. We want to tell stories, and we look for organisations who want their stories brought to life as well. Having that filter helps us know whether we’ll be successful at what we want to reach for.
Values have to do with your vision- where you want your organisation or brand to be and what story you need to get to that point. We value growth and impact. That’s why we do what we do. We love working with companies who have the same ambitions we have.
Your Values Determine Your Success
Your success is also heavily tied up with your values. When you know what your values are, you know what you want to achieve to gain success. What is the meaning of success for you? Do you want to be the best sustainable hotel? Do you want to create an online store? Are you interested in starting a cause that will save hungry children?
All those are values translated into action. When you know your values, you know what it will take for you to be successful and you will build a strategy to get you there. Do you know your values? Are you living and acting according to them? Are you working only with those who live and act according to shared values? If not, then it might be time to make the decision to do that.
